How is the apartment searching conducted when the foreign teacher arrives? Will I have to live in a hotel first?
After you've signed the contract, you will be assigned to a coordinator. According to your preferences, they will find 2-3 housing options to choose from, before your arrival.
What is my salary based on?
The salary is based on your highest obtained degree (BA, MA, PhD) and the years of experience in public schools (anywhere) or private schools (in Taiwan)
Is there a maximum number of overtime hours I can be assigned per week?
Normally you wont have to work overtime. Your contract states that you will have to work 40 hours a week. If in exceptional circumstances you are asked to work overtime, e.g. during a school event, you may use these hours as a compensatory leave in the following weeks.
Is there a teaching plan or do I have to come up with the teaching material?
There will be a year curriculum, but how that is implemented is up to the teacher.
Are there winter and/or summer camps?
Yes, winter camps last 2-5 days and summer camps last 2-10 days. If there is no camp, you still have to be on campus during the school holidays
What is the actual salary after all taxes?
The first 6 months you will have to pay 18%, starting from the 7th month you only have to pay 5% of tax. If in that year you have stayed for longer than 183 days in Taiwan, you can get a tax refund of 13% for the first 6 months. This is a cycle that repeats every year starting from January. This will be deducted from your salary by the school.
How long are the class periods and the breaks between them?
Class periods are 40-50 minutes, with 10-15 breaks in between them.
When will I be expected to land in Taiwan?
The coordinator will discuss this with you. This depends on the status of your work permit. However, for the reimbursement of your flight ticket, you’ll have to arrive within two months before you start working.

How many days of holiday do I get per year?
You will have 10 days of annual leave per year and get one day extra per year that you renew the contract. Additionally, you can take up to 5 days of personal or sick leave.
Since I'm unemployed, will the school pay the rent upfront?
You will get a housing stipend of 5000 NT per month. The coordinators will help negotiate your deposit with the landlord. However, schools will not give your salary upfront.
When are the school holidays?
Winter break (2-3 weeks around CNY), summer break (July-august) and public holidays.
Will there be any training or orientations prior to work?
There will usually be training and orientation in the first week of school.
Will I get my ARC, visa, police declaration, work permit, … reimbursed?
Personal documents are for your own cost. Work permit is paid for by the school.
